And just like that, I’m 22. So it seemed like a good time to reboot my content flow on this website again – not that I have been on any real hiatus, but surely two weeks in the online space is well over a lifetime. My excuses are the usual – class, work, travel, class, work, travel. Exams are looming.
But it’s going to be ok.
My dear Mum used to always say that the first day of the year (and then again on the first day of the Lunar year, just to get Major and I to behave) would dictate your mindset for the next 364 days. I’d say it’s probably more accurate for birthdays.
Today, I took it easy.
Sunrise at Bronte Beach, avo smash for breakfast, finally mounting some of my enormous exhibition
prints in my new office, updating Mum on the goings on of my work-life balance over clay facemasks and sweatpants, a sunny picnic on the rocks with Alex at Gordon’s Bay (for which we forgot cutlery, so just shoved salad and zucchini fritters straight into our faces), the Bondi-to-Bronte for a most sensational sunset, and a quiet dinner at this great new vegan restaurant in Bondi called Dandylion, that Alex has sniffed out by way of Kumera chips.
On our way back to the car from our picnic, we ran into everyone’s favourite biker mermaid siren Jazmine Hikaka (as I’ve so anointed her – she’s not wholly comfortable with the title) braving the clifftop chills in a bikini and a seriously good-looking car (shoot crew in tow, of course – though of all people, Jaz would be one to pull of zooming
along the coastline scantily clad).
So in that round about way, we come to this campaign I shot of Jazmine for Senso, which surely needs no introduction. To say the shoe label has a cult following would be as much an understatement as it would be to say that I’m a technology addict. Or more relevantly, that I wear Senso shoes. A lot.
Loving the product makes a job that much easier to shoot and style. I’d been so fixated on this dark 70s rock-and-roll concept (particularly given the glitter and black lurex fabric styles in the collection) that I got halfway to convincing Jaz to cut her mane of hair off into a Debbie Harry shag. The agency is certainly happier that I didn’t. And Max’s magic worked just as well (as usual).
